Joann store in Cheyenne

Cheyenne, Wyo. - A popular fabrics and crafts store is closing in Cheyenne.

Fabrics and crafts retailer Joann has announced plans to close more than half of its U.S. stores, after filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy. This is the second time in less than a year the company has made such a filing.

In Wyoming those closures include the location in Cheyenne's Frontier Mall (1400 Del Range Blvd) as well as the Rock Springs location (2441 Foothill Blvd, Suite 5).

533 of the company's 800 U.S. locations are closing in total. The initial store closing list includes at least one location in all 50 states, except Hawaii.

"The last several years have presented significant and lasting challenges in the retail environment, which, coupled with our current financial position and constrained inventory levels, forced us to take this step," said Michael Prendergast, Interim Chief Executive Officer of JOANN.

When exactly these closures will take place and how many employees will be impacted is not yet known.
